October 10th 2016 to October 21st, 2016

Join best selling photographer Doug Harman and Photographer and renowned Photoshop Artist Sue Chapman ARPS, CPAGB for their 2016 photography and Photoshop retreat where you will be shooting Autumnal landscapes, Canterbury Cathedral,  “Darling Buds of May country”, Dungeness, Faversham & Rye.

Designed for the relative beginner, this retreat is based at Elvey Farm where you’ll stay for the duration of the retreat; Elvey Farm is a small but beautifully exclusive hotel, nestled in the heart of the Kentish countryside near Pluckley, reputedly the county’s most haunted village.

Elvey Farm (below) was a medieval homestead and retains many of those charming features, remaining steeped in history and can be found at the end of a secluded and winding lane, ensuring a peaceful stay and the quietest of nights sleep.

Today, the accommodation comprises a modern and chic living space and the retreat’s luxury accommodation and fine Italian-English themed dining for your entire two week stay. Tuition takes place on each of the week days while the weekend is yours to relax and enjoy as you wish.  If you are the more adventurous type, perhaps a trip to London followed by a theatre performance might take your fancy, or maybe for those not feeling quite so energetic, a tour around some of our lovely Kentish villages photographing some of our historic buildings might suit you better? Of course the coast is a stone’s throw away and we have many interesting towns, Dover’s White Cliffs and many sandy beaches for you to explore.

Course Timings

Arrive Sunday afternoon October 9th.  Depart Saturday morning October 22nd

You may arrive at Elvey Farm any time after 1500hrs and settle yourself into your room. Doug and Sue will meet you for an introductory chat between 5 and 6pm for a pre-dinner drink and ensure you are comfortably ensconced in your new surroundings.  You will then have an hour of free time before your first evening meal where you will be able to chat with and get to know your fellow retreat attendees.

On the following morning, after a hearty breakfast, work starts at 1000hrs.  Doug and Sue will meet you in the conference room and after introductions we will kick off by ensuring you know how to get the most from your photographic gear and then, to get your photographic juices flowing properly, we will focus on capturing Kentish autumnal landscapes. You’ll be expertly guided on techniques and technical aspects of capturing all the locations visited to best effect, using a variety of photo-techniques.

During your stay we will head to a variety of local destinations, each one with its own unique characteristics and these will include the wonderful city of Canterbury with its bustling streets so full of character and the city’s beautiful Canterbury Cathedral. Other locations include what is often referred to as the “world’s most beautiful castle” in the shape of stunning Leeds Castle; we shall also venture out to Dungeness (below), an amazing open seascape full of amazing skies, old fishing boats, tumbledown fishing cottages and shacks; shingle beaches abound as does the amazing wildlife, all of which make a wonderful selection of superb photographic opportunities.

On the days between each location shoot, you will get time to work on your images using industry leading software Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom. You’ll be taken through the aspects of image organisation, editing and use of the software tools to fully realise your creativity and photo-artistry.
